Community guidelines
BestIn is only as good as its answers. A few simple rules keep it useful for everyone.
Asking
- Ask for the best of something specific: “Best pint of Guinness”, “Best café to work from”.
- Add details if they matter: budget, area, dietary needs, the occasion.
- Check the suggestions as you type. If it’s already been asked, add your answer there instead, so votes aren’t split.
Answering
- One pick per answer. Recommending three places? Add three answers, so each can be voted on.
- Say why. “Thick patties, great fries, they’ll do medium” helps far more than “it’s class”.
- Be specific. Add the area or street when a name could be ambiguous, e.g. “Pho Kim (Parnell Street)”.
- If your pick is already there, vote for it rather than adding it again.
Voting
- Vote on what you’d genuinely recommend (or wouldn’t) from your own experience.
- Downvote answers that are wrong, closed or not an answer, not ones you simply like less than yours.
- One person, one account. Using extra accounts, or asking others to vote a certain way, isn’t allowed.
Honesty about businesses
If you own, work for or are paid by a place, don’t answer or vote for it. Recommending it is fine in a comment, as long as you say you’re connected to it. BestIn works because the rankings come from customers.
Be decent
- Criticise places, not people. No harassment, hate or personal attacks.
- Don’t post anyone’s personal information, including staff at a business.
- Nothing illegal, sexually explicit or dangerous.
What gets removed
Moderators remove spam and advertising, abuse, content that’s off-topic or clearly false, and anything that breaks these guidelines or the terms. Repeated or serious breaches can lead to an account being removed. Removed comments stay in their thread as “[removed]” so replies still make sense.
See something that shouldn’t be here? Use Report on the question, answer or comment, and a moderator will take a look.
